The Biblical stories about the nation of Israel entering the promised land not only record historical events, but served as a type or picture of what Jesus came to earth to accomplish. For ages they also have served as a picture of what’s to come at the end of our earthly lives. The Promised Land on the far side of the Jordan represents both Heaven and the freedom we have in Christ even here on earth. The Jordan speaks of death that separates us from that Life.
